Struck with sudden inspiration sometime around 2020, I started the Sisyphean project of creating a role-playing game. Writing and drawing and scanning and editing. Six years later, I have the finished game in my hand: Cultists & Cubicles—A tabletop role-playing game about the horrors of working in the tech industry.

In the game, you play as a developer, tester, designer or other tech worker who has to confront the nefarious forces that are taking over your workplace. It’s corporate horror with elements of humor. The rules are simple, but the game is hard to survive.

The text and illustrations were created by me. Most drawings are done in ink except the illustrations for personas, which were drawn digitally on my tablet.
During the writing process, I’ve had many valuable discussions with Fredrik, Tobias, Markus, Daniel, Pontus (who also did the excellend graphic design). I also received invaluable feedback from many others along the way.

I’m happy with how the game turned out. I think it manages to balance the old school role-playing aesthetics with something contemporary. I’m especially proud of the metaphysics of the game world, but that’s for Game Managers’ eyes only. Cultists & Cubicles is probably especially enjoyable if you work in tech, but that is not a requirement.

If all this sounds fun, have a look at cultistsandcubicles.com where you can also find info on where it’s possible buy the game. The digital edition of the game book is available at RPG Trader and DrivethruRPG.
